The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
In some cases, the transfer of mass while cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to a force 3 times greater than the other. This can result in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
