The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of the body’s mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In some cases, the transfer of mass while cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to forces up to 3 times greater than the other. This can result in significant chassis flex, body deformation and torsional loads, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flex while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
