The vehicle chassis is the part exposed to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly pronounced due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In certain cases, mass transfer during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to a force up to three times greater than the other. The result is significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or bodywork, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
