The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is mainly due to the transfer of body weight when cornering at speed, braking hard and accelerating.
In some cases, the transfer of weight in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This causes considerable chassis twisting and body deformation, resulting in a loss of tyre grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting in corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
