The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is mainly caused by the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, hard braking or intense acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other. This causes significant bending, deformation and twisting of the chassis, which can result in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
