The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads due to driving conditions. This is particularly noticeable when the body weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or sudden acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in significant chassis or body twisting and deformation, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable driving characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
