The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest stress during dynamic driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or sharp acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in greater deformation and twisting of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
