The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident when the body’s weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to as much as three times more force than the other. This results in greater chassis flex and body deformation, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flex during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
