A car’s chassis is one of the most heavily loaded parts of the vehicle, particularly due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
During cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can cause significant chassis flexing or deformation and torsion of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
