The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during fast driving. These loads are caused mainly by the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking and acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can cause significant chassis flex, or deformation and torsion of the body, resulting in a loss of tyre grip.
Chassis flex and deformation during cornering can negatively affect the vehicle’s handling and cause understeer and oversteer.
