The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving, particularly due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking and acceleration.
When cornering, the transfer of mass can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to a force up to three times greater than the other. This creates high loads on the chassis, twists the body and consequently causes a loss of tyre grip.
Chassis twisting and deformation when driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
