The vehicle’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, the transfer of weight can cause one side of the vehicle to experience up to 3 times more load than the other side. This causes significant chassis flex, or deformation and torsional twisting of the body, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flex during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
