The vehicle chassis is one of the most heavily loaded parts of the car, as it is affected by the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking and acceleration.
When cornering, mass transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This causes considerable chassis flex or deformation and body torsion, resulting in loss of tyre grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
