The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of the body’s mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in significant twisting and deformation of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
