The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. These loads are mainly caused by the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This results in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or body, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis while driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
