The vehicle chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
In certain cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in significant chassis flex, or deformation and torsion of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
