The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest stress while driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When weight is transferred in a corner, one side of the vehicle can be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This causes considerable chassis flexing and deformation, as well as torsional twisting of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing while driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
