The vehicle chassis is among the components subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is mainly due to the transfer of the bodywork’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking and intense acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in high loads on the chassis, as well as twisting and deformation of the bodywork, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Twisting and deformation of the chassis during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
