The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When weight is transferred in a corner, one side of the vehicle can be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This causes the bodywork to twist and deform, which can result in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
