A car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is mainly caused by the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. The result is significant chassis flex, or body deformation and torsion, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis flex and torsion while cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
