The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly pronounced due to the transfer of the vehicle body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in significant chassis flex, body deformation and loss of tyre grip.
Chassis deformation and flex during cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
