The car body shell is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is especially noticeable due to the transfer of the body shell’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. The result is increased twisting and bending of the body shell, as well as a loss of tyre grip.
Body shell twisting in corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer. The rear strut brace increases body shell stiffness in the mounting area.
