The car body is the part that is subjected to the greatest stresses during driving. This is particularly noticeable when the body weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other. This results in greater chassis twisting or body deformation, as well as a loss of tyre grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
