The car body is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly true due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, mass transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in heavy loads on the body, causing it to twist and deform, which makes the tyres lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while cornering can result in poorer handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
