The vehicle body is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly pronounced due to the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or sudden acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in greater loads, bending and twisting of the bodywork, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Bending and twisting of the chassis during cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer. The rear strut brace (strut bar) connects the mounting points and helps reinforce the bodywork at the rear of the vehicle.
