The vehicle body is the part subjected to the greatest stresses during driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.

In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more load than the other. This results in high loads, bending and twisting of the body, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.

Bending and twisting of the chassis in corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
