The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly evident when the body’s mass is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, mass transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in greater deformation and twisting of the body, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer. The rear strut brace helps connect the mounting points and limit unwanted body movement.
