The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident when the body weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to 3 times more force than the other. This causes significant chassis flex, or deformation and torsion of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flex when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
