The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads as a result of the driver’s actions. This is particularly evident when transferring loads through the body during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In some cases, load transfer while cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to experience up to three times more force than the other. This causes significant bending, deformation and twisting of the chassis, which can result in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while cornering can cause unwanted driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
