The vehicle body is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of the body’s mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in greater body flex and chassis deformation, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
