The vehicle body is the part that is most exposed to loads during driving. This is particularly pronounced due to the transfer of the body’s mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or sudden acceleration.
When cornering, the load on one side of the vehicle can increase to as much as three times the load on the other side. This places significant loads on the body, causing it to bend and twist, which can result in the tyres losing grip.
Bending and twisting of the body during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
