The car’s chassis is the part of the vehicle subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly true due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, hard braking or sudden acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to a force up to three times greater than the other. This causes significant chassis flex, as well as deformation and torsional loads on the body, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing while driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
