The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly noticeable when the body weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in significant deformation and flexing of the chassis or bodywork, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
