The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body mass when cornering at high speed, braking hard or accelerating.
When cornering, the transfer of mass can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to a force up to three times greater than the other. This causes significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or body, resulting in a loss of tyre grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
