The car body is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is especially noticeable due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, hard braking or intense acceleration.
In certain situations, the transfer of mass in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in significant body deformation and twisting, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
