The vehicle chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is mainly caused by the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This creates significant loads as well as twisting and deformation of the chassis, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
