The car’s chassis is the part that is subjected to the most stress while driving. This is particularly evident when the vehicle’s weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This results in significant flexing and twisting of the chassis or bodywork, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis flexing and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
