The car body is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is especially evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This results in greater twisting and bending of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Twisting and deformation of the chassis while driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
