The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest stress during dynamic driving. This is mainly due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This places considerable stress on the chassis and causes the bodywork to twist and deform, resulting in a loss of tyre grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
