The vehicle body is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads during spirited driving. This is mainly due to the transfer of the vehicle’s mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This results in greater body flex and deformation, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis flex and deformation while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
