The chassis is the part of the vehicle subjected to the greatest loads while driving, particularly due to the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking and acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in greater chassis flex and deformation and torsion of the body, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing during cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
