When driving at speed, the car’s body is subjected to heavy loads, particularly due to weight transfer during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, the load on one side of the vehicle can be up to three times greater than on the other. This causes the body to bend, twist and deform, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Body twist during cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer. The rear upper strut brace (strut bar) connects the mounting points at the upper part of the body and helps reduce body twist.
