The CTS Turbo billet intake manifold plenum is specifically designed for the Audi RS3/TTRS with DAZA/DNWA engines. With its precise construction, it improves airflow dynamics while retaining compatibility with OEM components.

By moving the throttle body mounting flange outwards, the need for the OEM spacer is eliminated, and airflow to the nearest cylinder is more direct. Through precise design and extensive CFD testing, flow efficiency has been significantly improved. The plenum has an enlarged transition in the divider section, which increases total flow while retaining the factory flow distribution between the engine cylinders.

The firing order 1-2-4-5-3 was taken into account during development, so the plenum was tuned to replicate the engine’s operating conditions and provide optimum air distribution. It also includes 2 1/8″ NPT ports for additional connection options.

Flow bench testing at 600 CFM showed a 53% reduction in total pressure drop:

  • OEM plenum: 35.0 inH2O at 600 CFM
  • CTS plenum: 16.5 inH2O at 600 CFM

The intake manifold is supplied pre-assembled and pressure-tested, allowing for easy installation. The billet plenum surface is protected with black anodising for increased durability and a refined appearance.

  • On a modified RS3 Stage 3, the plenum achieved an increase of 45 WHP and 60 WTQ compared with the OEM intake manifold, without additional ECU tuning.
  • On a heavily modified RS3, after additional ECU tuning, the plenum achieved an increase from 1,018 WHP to 1,044 WHP, or 26 WHP, compared with the OEM intake manifold.

Key features:

  • 6061 billet construction
  • Black anodised surface
  • 53% reduction in pressure drop
  • 2 1/8″ NPT ports
  • Improved throttle body performance and response
  • Compatible with the CTS throttle body intake connection and the OEM connection
  • Eliminates the throttle body spacer while retaining the factory throttle body position

Notes:

  1. Some upgraded 4-bar MAP sensors require a longer mounting bolt for installation, and the sensor must also be modified.
  2. When installed with a TTE billet throttle body intake connection, the supplied mounting hardware is not compatible, so suitable bolts selected by the user must be used.

Plenum testing details:

  • After retuning the vehicle with CTS components installed, 25 WHP more was achieved compared with the OEM components.
  • The 4-inch intake system was clearly restricting performance. When using a 5-inch intake system, the results would be expected to be even better.
  • After retuning, turbocharger response and peak power increased.
  • Measurements before and after installation were carried out on two different days, but the ambient conditions were almost identical.
  • On the day of testing, the temperature was 23 °C, with a value of 1200 DA.
  • The maximum measured boost pressure was 45 psi.
  • An IMS950R turbocharger and E98 fuel were used for the results.
  • The unusual fluctuations at the top of the dyno graph were caused by the dyno’s configuration. The test was carried out at Racing Greed, where the main power measurement roller is positioned under the rear wheels. This setup is not ideal for the vehicle, as most of the power and torque is transferred to the front wheels.

Once the measured power exceeded 1,000 WHP, the Haldex system could no longer effectively transfer additional power to the rear axle, which caused irregularities in the graph. As the dyno measures primarily through the rear roller, it could not accurately display the vehicle’s actual performance under these conditions. Turning the vehicle around on the dyno would produce a more even graph.

This was confirmed by an additional measurement at Evolution Auto in Richmond, where the main measurement roller is positioned at the front. The results there were very even, confirming that the previous irregularities were caused by the dyno configuration and not the vehicle.

Suitable for: Audi RS3 III (8V), Audi Ttrs II (8S).
