Forge Motorsport FMINDK43 is an upgraded upper intake system section that mounts to the original lower airbox section. The system uses high-quality carbon fibre and a pleated, conical performance air filter.
- Measured gain of up to 13 bhp at the wheels
- Maximum torque gain of up to 8 Nm
- High-quality carbon fibre construction
- Pleated performance air filter
- No engine malfunction light (EML)
- Increased airflow
The original airbox on the Toyota GR Yaris works well, particularly with the standard engine software, but its limitation is the amount and direction of airflow. FMINDK43 therefore replaces the upper section of the airbox, while the lower section remains original. Combined with the Forge Motorsport FMINLD1 intake duct, it provides a more consistent supply of cold air to the lower airbox section.
The connection pipe diameter is increased from the original 80 mm to 89 mm, which means approximately 20% greater volume in the connecting pipe between the turbo intake pipe adapter and the airbox. Instead of a panel filter, a conical filter is used, positioned optimally inside the lower airbox section for the best possible airflow into the intake system.
The design was developed with the sensitivity of the MAF sensor and the standard engine calibration in mind. During development, different MAF sensor heights, sensor distances from the inlet, diameters and flow directions were tested on the road and on a dynamometer. The final design retains the driving characteristics of the standard vehicle while also providing a slightly more pronounced intake sound.
When combined with the Forge Motorsport FMTIA8 turbo intake pipe adapter, the volume of the intake section before the turbocharger increases by 53% compared with the standard design. The 89 mm diameter over most of the intake tract provides a more consistent flow from the filter to the turbocharger with fewer restrictions. The shape works similarly to a classic velocity stack, directing air more directly towards the turbocharger.
Dynamometer results
With the standard turbo intake tract, FMINDK43 achieved an average maximum gain of 13 bhp at the wheels and a maximum torque gain of 8 Nm.
At engine speeds from 2000 to 3600 rpm, the lower flap in the airbox opens via a solenoid. In this range, with the FMINDK43 installed, a torque gain of approximately 15–20 Nm was measured at the same engine speeds compared with the standard design, which is also noticeable when driving and in the vehicle’s response.
The results were achieved with the standard engine control unit without an additional remap. On vehicles with optimised engine software, the increased airflow may allow the system to be used even more effectively.
The kit includes all the parts required for installation, which takes approximately half an hour, as well as illustrated colour fitting instructions. The carbon parts are made from 2 × 2 twill weave, formed in an autoclave using tooling made from a solid block and finished with a gloss UV-protective gel coat.
