Advantages:

Normally, oil and water vapour is routed into the intake manifold, where it is ignited and expelled after entering the combustion chamber together with the fuel-air mixture. With the direct-injection system used by TSI models, the cylinder heads and valves are no longer washed with fuel. This means that the fuel previously used for cleaning is no longer available, as it is injected directly into the combustion chamber.

As a result, exhaust-gas recirculation combined with the oil and water vapour from the crankcase ventilation causes heavy contamination to build up. These deposits collect in the cylinder-head chambers and on the valves. They make the material surface rough, narrow the air-flow cross-sections and prevent optimum air turbulence and cylinder filling.

When the deposits are still minor, performance is initially reduced noticeably and an uneven idle develops. Emissions also worsen and fuel consumption increases. At an advanced stage, the deposits interfere with the valve train to such an extent that the valves may no longer close fully. This causes a loss of compression in the affected cylinders and results in misfires. The deposits can also cause the valves to break off, potentially leading to engine damage in the worst case.

The HF-Series Catch Can kit permanently addresses this problem. During engine operation, the catch tank system does not route oil vapour into the intake tract. The vapour is directed into the catch tank, where it is collected. This reduces valve deposits, contributing to smoother engine operation and the best possible restoration of the original performance. Fitting the system also results in cleaner combustion. Despite diverting oil and water vapour into the catch can, emissions values (European emissions standard) remain compliant.

The main problem: the poorly designed crankcase ventilation system. Under high lateral G-forces, particularly in combination with higher oil temperatures, oil can splash up to the crankcase ventilation system and then enter the clean side of the turbocharger directly. This can cause heavy smoke from the exhaust tips.

The consequences can include limp mode, misfires, turbocharger damage and even catastrophic engine damage. The oil separator does not operate optimally under sporting conditions. These conditions normally occur on a race track, but can also arise during heavy braking from high speeds or on steep roads.

The solution: this is where our Catch Can system differs from simple versions in which a tank is merely installed in the return line. With our system, the complete PCV block on the cylinder head is also modified. It is designed to prevent engine oil from spilling over into the return line, eliminating this problem on all EA888 Gen.3/4 engines.

Road use: This product is not permitted for use on public roads and is intended exclusively for motorsport use.
