Racingline intake system – Audi S3 8P quattro (VWR1230S3)

The kit replaces the restrictive factory airbox with a larger-diameter intake pipe and high-flow filter. It supplies the turbocharger with cooler, denser air and improves throttle response and driving feel.

Motorsport-inspired development

The intake system was developed and tested on Volkswagen Racing competition cars before being adapted for road use. Independent flow tests show up to 9% greater airflow at peak power compared with the standard intake system. In everyday driving, this results in improved throttle response, greater power and torque and, in some cases, up to 500 rpm less time before the turbocharger reaches boost pressure. The improved response is particularly noticeable in the mid-range.

Trifoam filter

The centrepiece of the system is the Trifoam filter, made from a three-layer laminate of open-cell polyurethane foam. The same foam filtration technology is also used in Formula 1 engines, as it combines effective protection against dust with very low airflow resistance. Each filter is handmade in the United Kingdom.

The filter is designed for lifetime use, as it can be washed and re-oiled. In normal road use, it should be cleaned and re-oiled approximately every 20,000 miles (30,000 km).

Realistic expectations

On a standard Audi S3 8P, the most noticeable improvements are throttle response, a livelier mid-range and a more pronounced intake sound. The peak power increase on a standard vehicle is moderate, as is usual with an intake system upgrade alone. The system can make better use of its airflow in combination with a Stage 1 or Stage 2 software upgrade.

The intake system is intended for the Audi S3 8P quattro with the 2.0 TFSI engine. It fits versions with the BHZ, CDLA, BZC and CDLC engine codes.
