The Racingline Cup Edition intake system (VWR12G7CUP) is a high-quality open intake system developed using motorsport experience and refined for fast road driving. It replaces the factory airbox with a large-diameter intake pipe and high-flow conical filter, providing the 1.8 or 2.0 TSI/TFSI turbo engine with cool, dense intake air.

Performance and benefits

The standard airbox is designed as a compromise between cost, noise and emissions, so it can restrict the engine more than necessary. The Cup Edition removes this restriction with a smooth, large-diameter pipe and an enlarged TriFoam dome-shaped high-flow filter. The larger filter area allows a greater volume of cool air to reach the turbocharger and improves efficiency throughout the rev range.

According to Racingline measurements, the improved airflow reduces the time until turbocharger engagement by almost 500 rpm, allowing it to reach boost pressure sooner. The result is sharper throttle response, reduced turbo lag and stronger mid-range pull.

Thoughtful open-filter design

A common problem with open intake systems is drawing hot air from the engine bay, which can impair performance. Racingline solves this with a fully shaped, black powder-coated aluminium heat shield that surrounds the filter. The shield extends to the underside of the bonnet and beneath the filter, separating hot engine-bay air from the cool intake air. This allows the system to deliver consistent performance even when waiting in traffic or after demanding driving.

Sound

As an open intake system, the Cup Edition produces a noticeably deeper and more aggressive intake sound under hard acceleration. When lifting off the throttle during gear changes, the diverter valve can also be heard more clearly, which is one of the features many enthusiasts expect from an intake system upgrade.

Compatibility

The system is intended for vehicles with the MQB platform and 1.8 TSI/TFSI and 2.0 TSI/TFSI engines, including various versions of the Audi A3/S3, Audi TT/TTS, SEAT Leon, Škoda Octavia/Superb and Volkswagen Arteon, Golf VII and Passat B8 models. Due to differences in engine versions and model years, compatibility must be checked for the specific vehicle.

Fitting notes

ECU software changes are not required to fit this intake system. For the full benefit of the improved airflow, the system is best combined with Stage 1 software optimisation or a more powerful version. The TriFoam filter is reusable and should be cleaned occasionally with a suitable foam filter cleaning kit to maintain optimal airflow.
