Racingline Performance cold air intake system – VW Golf V 2.0 TDI (VWR12G50D)

The VWR12G50D kit is designed specifically for the VW Golf V with a 2.0 TDI diesel engine. It replaces the factory airbox and intake hoses with a higher-flow system that draws cooler air from outside the engine bay, thereby improving airflow into the engine.

How the intake system works

The standard airbox on the Golf V 2.0 TDI is designed primarily for quiet operation and compliance with emissions requirements, which limits airflow into the engine. Racingline addresses this with a smooth, larger-diameter intake hose and a high-flow cotton filter in a closed housing. Cooler, denser air from outside the engine bay is delivered directly to the turbocharger, helping to improve combustion efficiency.

On the 2.0 TDI engine, this results in a more responsive throttle response and a slightly more pronounced turbocharger sound, particularly under acceleration. On a standard vehicle, power gains are modest, but the intake system is a good supporting upgrade when combined with an ECU software remap.

Construction and installation

Maintenance

The cotton filter element can be reused. After a certain period, remove it, clean it and re-oil it with a standard cotton filter service kit, so it does not need to be replaced regularly like a paper filter.
