Racingline Performance cold-air intake system for 2.0 TFSI engines replaces the restrictive factory airbox with a high-flow, fully enclosed intake system. It supplies the engine with a consistent flow of cold, dense air from outside the engine bay.
The result is improved airflow, a more responsive throttle and a more pronounced induction sound without the monotonous droning or excessive volume of an open cone filter.
Why upgrade the standard intake system?
The standard intake system on the 2.0 TFSI engine is a known restriction, especially on vehicles with modified software or other performance upgrades. The Racingline system improves the air path from the external intake to the turbocharger, allowing the engine to draw in air more easily while the turbocharger can operate more efficiently.
- Up to 9% greater airflow at maximum power compared with the original intake system
- Faster turbocharger response – in some cases, spool-up can begin up to 500 rpm earlier
- Lower intake air temperatures thanks to the fully enclosed airbox, which draws air from outside the engine bay
- Pronounced induction sound under hard acceleration, while remaining restrained during normal driving
- Direct installation using the original factory mounting points
Trifoam filter technology
The centrepiece of the system is the Racingline Trifoam filter, made from a three-layer open-cell polyurethane foam laminate. This is the type of filter material also used in some Formula 1 engines, as it offers a good balance between filtration and airflow. Each filter is handmade in the United Kingdom.
The filter is fully washable and reusable. In normal road use, it should be cleaned and re-oiled every 20,000 miles (approximately 30,000 km), making it a long-term upgrade rather than a conventional service consumable.
Construction and installation
The intake system uses a large-diameter pipe with a smooth inner surface to reduce turbulence, together with a fully enclosed airbox that separates the filter from the hot air in the engine bay. Installation is straightforward and uses the existing factory mounting points, with no cutting or permanent modifications.
The kit is intended for 2.0 TFSI engines, including AXX, BWA, CAWB, BPY, CBFA, CCZA and CCTA variants.
What to expect
On a standard vehicle, you will notice improved throttle response, livelier mid-range performance and a considerably more pronounced induction sound. On a software-modified or otherwise upgraded 2.0 TFSI engine, where the standard intake system becomes a more significant restriction, the effect of the upgrade is even more noticeable.
