Racingline oil cooler kit for 2.0 TSI Gen.3 and Gen.4 engines (from 2013)

Cooler oil means better engine protection. As the power output of the 2.0 TSI engine and the demands of driving increase, controlling oil temperature becomes increasingly important. The Racingline oil cooler kit (VWR18G700) is a complete solution for installation on 2.0 TSI vehicles on the MQB and MQB Evo platforms, equipped with EA888 Gen.3 or Gen.4 engines from 2013 onwards.

More power also means more heat for the engine oil to absorb. At excessive temperatures, the oil becomes thinner and loses its ability to lubricate properly, which can cause increased wear and engine failures. On the other hand, the oil must not be over-cooled either. The Racingline 10-row cooler is sized for balanced operation on the road and track.

How it works

The kit uses a sandwich plate installed between the engine block and the oil filter housing, directing the oil to an additional oil-to-air cooler mounted in the airflow at the front of the vehicle. The factory oil-to-water cooler remains in use, so cooling capacity is practically doubled while heat transfer to the cooling system is reduced.

In normal use, oil temperature is typically reduced by approximately 15–20 °C, depending on driving style, ambient temperature and the level of engine modification.

Kit contents

• AN10 10-row oil cooler core
• CNC sandwich plate machined from an aluminium billet, with a non-return valve
• Billet aluminium oil filter housing with a removable stainless steel insert filter
• AN10 210-series feed and return hoses with nylon braiding
• Oil cooler brackets – one kit for the Audi S3 8V and one kit for all other MQB and MQB Evo vehicles
• Installation kit with all nuts, bolts, washers and rubber damping bushes

Installation notes

To secure the oil cooler bracket, bolt holes must be drilled through the front longitudinal member or the cross member for crash protection. Take this into account when planning the installation.

Important: newly built engines

Racingline does not recommend immediately installing this oil cooler kit on a freshly rebuilt engine that was not rebuilt at the factory. The stainless steel filter has a very high filtration capacity, so the oil can carry assembly substances such as molybdenum paste, assembly lubricant and grease through the filter. These substances can restrict or even block the filter.

With a newly built engine, carry out a running-in period of at least 1,000 miles (1,600 km), then fully flush the oil system and change the oil to oil approved by VWG. The oil cooler kit can then be safely installed. After a further 1,000 miles, the stainless steel filter must be inspected and thoroughly cleaned chemically.

After installation, Racingline recommends inspecting, cleaning or replacing the stainless steel filter every 5,000 miles, in line with the vehicle’s usual service intervals.

The kit is intended for 2.0 TSI EA888 Gen.3 and Gen.4 engines (from 2013 onwards) on the MQB and MQB Evo platforms, including Volkswagen Golf GTI/R, Audi S3/TTS, SEAT Leon Cupra and Škoda Octavia vRS vehicles. Take the exact engine and vehicle specification into account when choosing.

Benefits of an additional oil cooler

During demanding driving, the standard oil cooler can quickly become overloaded. An additional front-mounted cooler dissipates heat directly into the cooler airflow and helps keep the oil within the appropriate operating temperature range. This provides more reliable lubrication, more consistent operation during prolonged load or track driving and better long-term engine protection, especially for modified vehicles and in hot climates.
